Benchmarks are a useful tool for a buyer to check the price he currently pays for a certain component or product
against other manufacturer’s price.
A benchmark is also advantageous for a supplier to determine whether his price level matches the
market price so he can decide on actions to stay competitive.
A successful benchmark that yields useful results is one that doesn’t
smell like it and preferably done by a third party. If not conducted properly, suppliers will be reluctant to provide a quote when
an actual RFQ comes along and reject the opportunity suspecting another benchmark exercise.
